Compassionate, personalized therapy to support your journey

My Approach

I am dedicated to providing a compassionate and personalized counseling experience. My number one goal as a therapist is to show up with you as you are, and understand you there before moving in any one direction. Building a rapport established in trust, common understanding, and compassion is key to helping you feel welcomed and safe in the space we share together. I am always captivated by the uniqueness we hold as humans, and therefore, I love working with people from all walks of life. It is important to note that I embrace gender affirming and body positive ideals, particularly as it relates to the LGBTQIA+ and Eating Disorder communities.

I’ve had extensive experience within the holistic health field and that has carried over to my work as a counselor where I look at someone as a whole person, not just a list of symptoms. You and your story as a whole picture will be accounted for here. Life is hard and I want you to know you have the choice to not be alone amidst the complexities.

I myself have had my own mental health struggles, particularly suffering from years of an eating disorder for which I was lucky enough to receive adequate treatment. This work isn’t just a job to me; it is my passion to help others through the darkness of their struggles. I sit in front of you as person first, then as counselor.

Treatment

Internal Family Systems/Parts Work: IFS focuses on the different parts within us that were developed to help us cope at particular times in our lives. Oftentimes those coping strategies (i.e. parts) become counterproductive for the current situations we are in which means we must update our way of thinking and therefore, being. This can only be done when parts are identified, acknowledged, and accepted. These parts redefine their relationship with the truest version of self so we can live in alignment with our authenticity.

Gestalt Therapy: Gestalt Therapy includes something called empty chair work which is one way to know different aspects within you that may be in conflict. This method helps bring the internal thoughts out loud to the surface so we can start communicating with them and healing. Spiritual psychology, which relies heavily on this method, states that when love is applied to hurt, we heal. This type of compassion is at the focus of all my sessions.

Specialties

Eating Disorders/Body Image Issues: If you are someone who has struggled with diet culture, body shame, and/or a negative relationship with food in any way, I may be able to help. The grounds of this work are established in the fact that often these issues are not your fault. They are the result of a society that has enforced unrealistic beauty standards, sent messages that appearance equates self-worth, and that coping strategies around food are something to be ashamed about. My aim is to help untangle such beliefs and help you find freedom beyond them. Together, we will explore the roots of your relationship with food and body image from a HAES (Health at Every Size) perspective, working to gently replace shame and criticism with care and self-compassion. Your body has an innate inner wisdom with its own language of signals which we will work on tapping into so you can nourish and find peace in the body you were born with.

Affirming and Empowering LGBTQIA+ Identities: As a proud member of the LGBTQIA+ community, I understand that discovering, embracing, or expressing who you are can be both powerful and painful. Too often, queer and questioning individuals face adversity, misunderstanding, or pressure not just for people on the outside, but even from those within their very own communities. My goal is to provide a space where you can safely explore your identity, relationships, and the many differing emotions that come with living authentically. Today’s world is nothing short of complex and challenging, understandably a fearful place for many of us. I want you to know you deserve to be seen and celebrated for your whole self and walk a life that is prideful of exactly who you are.

Navigating Life Transitions: Life has a way of shifting beneath our feet – sometimes slowly, sometimes all at once. Whether it is going off to college, shifting careers, or coming to terms with one’s own mortality, change can stir up deep emotions and uncertainty. My hope is to provide a grounding space where you can pause, reflect, and find your footing. Together, we can make sense of what is unfolding and reconnect with your inner wisdom. This “higher self”, if you will, always knows how to move forward even when the path is unclear. We just haven’t been taught how to access it in our lives. Through an Internal Family Systems lens (IFS), we will gently explore the different parts of you that exist amidst this transition, perhaps the scared part, or the anxious part, or the resistant one. By understanding these parts rather than fighting them, you can begin to update your system with a new, more adaptive way of coping. Change does not mean losing yourself. It is merely an invitation to come home to who you truly are.
